One important step not mentioned on Google’s list is archiving all of your data. To make sure that you have access to everything if you decide to delete or suspend your account, navigate to Settings. Data tools, Download Your Data and follow their instructions.

This will download a .zip file containing an archive of all of your emails, photos, bookmarks, contacts, and more. Keep a copy somewhere safe Also note that it may take some time for all of your information to appear within your archive it took me a few days. Once you’ve downloaded your data, go ahead and delete your account.

Meanwhile, If you ever want to reactivate it at any point down the road, just sign back in with your username and password. You can also choose to deactivate instead of deleting, which allows you to come back without losing any of your content or settings. But keep in mind that deactivating won’t allow you to use other Google services like Gmail or YouTube.

The good news is that once your account has been deleted, it cannot be recovered unless you change your mind. And if you do change your mind, remember that you can reinstate an account at any time within 2 weeks of deleting it.
Once you confirm the deletion, it can take several days for everything to be permanent delete. During that time, you can log back into your account and check its status at any time by clicking on Deactivate my account. But once those two weeks are up, you’ll no longer be able to log into your Google account. That means that all data will be gone for good your Gmail messages and emails will vanish, as well as all other associated accounts such as YouTube or a G+ profile.

Step 5: Read the Warning
